Larry Dickman’s story began on a small farm outside of Hammond, Minnesota, where he was born in 1934. Becoming a family man meant paying bills, and he stumbled into selling cookware.
At first, he made $50 for every set of cookware he sold, and he felt rich. From there, it was on to selling sewing machines and cars before he joined Saladmaster.
In this memoir, he shares critical lessons for sales professionals, including how to: qualify referrals in tactful ways; get follow-up appointments; and embrace change even when you like the status quo.

But many dissidents there see the country's free-speech situation as more of a nightmare. Chinese human rights activist Chen Guangcheng believes the situation for activists in China has only worsened since Xi has taken charge. Speaking with reporters on Monday at the Oslo Freedom Forum in Norway, he said international governments should step up pressure on Chinese leaders if they hope to encourage true change in China. A blind, self-taught lawyer, Chen made international headlines last year when he escaped from years of house arrest and sought asylum in the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Since then, his family has been targeted through what appear to be revenge attacks. Meanwhile, Chen has continued his fight for openness and justice in China from his new home in the U.S., where he is a visiting scholar at New York University School of Law and is authoring a memoir scheduled for release this fall.Continue reading: http://www.theatlantic.com/china/archive/2013/05/chen-guangcheng-communism-has-always-been-a-scam/275799/ READ MORE ARTICLES: http://barcelona.thetylergroup.org/ http://thetylergroupeconomic.blogspot.com/2013/03/job-seekers-beware-new-phishing-scam.html http://www.wellsphere.com/healthy-living-article/the-tyler-group-services-nato-says-plans-in-place-to-defend-turkey/1775253

"I don't believe in God, but I miss Him." This book is, among many things, a family memoir, an exchange with Barnes' brother (a philosopher), a meditation on mortality and the fear of death, a celebration of art, an argument with and about God, and a homage to the French writer Jules Renard. Though he warns us that "this is not my autobiography," the result is a tour of the mind of one of our most brilliant writers.

In this memoir, Frayn reveals the original exemplar of the extraordinary-ordinary life: his father, Tom Frayn. A clever lad, a roofing salesman with a winning smile and a racetrack vocabulary, Tom Frayn emerged undaunted from a childhood spent in two rooms with six other people, all of them deaf. And undaunted he stayed, even through the shockingly sudden tragedy that darkened his life. Tom Frayn left his son little more than three watches and two ink-and-wash prints. But the true fortune he passed on was the great humor and spirit revealed in this beguiling memoir.

For the military men, home may be a refreshing “site” but how long would it be until they start living in the barracks again—in between active engagements? Delve into the tedious and mundane life of a soldier and the amusing ways with which he keeps himself occupied, in double veteran Milton Cook’s new remarkable book, That’s The Way The Ball Bounces: A Nonplused Soldier’s Mundane Exploits During WWII. Get a glimpse of the military life through this engrossing memoir while learning about a teenage soldier’s somewhat unusual service as a Military Policeman in the Army Air Force during World War II. After basic training in Miami Beach, the MP Company was stationed for over two years at the headquarters of a Replacement Depot in the English Midlands. The company was billeted in a dormitory-like barrack, with two men per room. After the war, what remained of the company was sent to Germany and had them stay there for two months. Both a personal and a social history of the then Army life and Military Police duties, That’s The Way The Ball Bounces offers readers an engaging first-hand account of a WWII soldier’s life as seen from a different perspective.
This film proposes to debunk myths propagandized by the North Korean government about its "Dear Leader" Kim Jong-il, a "worshipper of his own people" who reportedly suffered all the ebbs and flows of sorrow in solidarity with his country during "The March of Tribulations" period (1994-97), when millions of people were in fact being systematically starved to death by his despotic regime. According to propaganda, Kim is told to have eaten potatoes and coarse rice balls off the streets while taking numerous field surveys "for the sake of the ordinary people." In contrast to such propaganda's blatant untruth, this film seeks to shed light instead on the striking facts of the dictator's extravagant and hypocritical lifestyle he actually led at the time and that has continued to this day, by examining the contents of Fujimoto Genji's memoir "Kim Jong-il's Chef," a book based on the author's first-hand experience of having formerly served as a private chef and oft-sought playmate to Kim on his various extravagant pastimes. By spreading this film, the authors seek to fight against the idolized myths about Kim Jong-il, undercut the loyalty of the people blindedly pledged to him, and build anti-Kim-Jong-il solidarity among the Korean people and concerned citizens of the world. It offers inspirations as it recalls how her ups and downs, remissions and flares have taught her patience, knowledge, how to love and be loved, and how to accept as well as give support and understanding. Above all, it is a heartwarming memoir that conveys an important message of hope and faith amid uncertainties

Bestselling author of Fight Club, Choke and Pygmy, Palahniuk serves up his latest confection in TELL-ALL. Marinated in the world of vintage Hollywood, TELL-ALL is a Sunset Boulevard-inflected homage to Old Hollywood when Bette Davis and Joan Crawford ruled the roost; a veritable Tourette's Syndrome of rat-tat-tat name-dropping, from the A-list to the Z-list; and a merciless send up of Lillian Hellman's habit of butchering the truth that will have Mary McCarthy cheering from the beyond.
Our Thelma Ritter-ish narrator is Hazie Coogan, who for decades has tended to the outsized needs of Katherine "Miss Kathie" Kenton - veteran of multiple marriages, career comebacks and cosmetic surgeries. But danger arrives with gentleman caller Webster Carlton Westward III, who worms his way into Miss Kathie's heart (and boudoir). Hazie discovers that this bounder has already written a celebrity tell-all memoir foretelling Miss Kathie's death in a forthcoming Lillian Hellman-penned musical extravaganza, Unconditional Surrender, in which she portrays Lilly defeating Japanese forces from Pearl Harbor to Nagasaki. As the body count mounts, Hazie must execute a plan to save Katherine Kenton for her fans--and for posterity.
TELL-ALL is funny, subversive, and fascinatingly clever. It's wild, it's wicked, it's bold-faced - it's vintage Chuck.
Host, Dr. Don Baham, interviews guest, author Carol Grier, about her memoir and how and why she wrote it. Carol talks about child abuse, drug abuse, and a gay son who died of AIDS.

Motel Americana - Trailer for the feature film from Christiana Productions and WJB Visual Arts. Shorts in the volume include The Fetish, Always Leave a Pretty Corpse, The Double, The Knee, Make-Up a love story and The Knee. The music in the trailer is from Laurent Rochelle of Linoleum Productions. A synopsis of sorts goes something like this:
The American Dream has been beaten and kicked long enough. He quits his job, fires his attorney, and leaves a wife who wont notice hes gone until she has no one to dance with when the ball drops on New Year's. With a case of Ancient Age and a trunkload of cigarettes, he checks into a motel to write a memoir about the rise and fall of an elegant, though deeply flawed ideaâhis dirty life and times. All of them. He begins, I am going to turn this prince back into a frog and croak frog songs into the gravel pit of midnight. Ah, New Jersey, you son-of-a-bitchen crotch puncher, Im here. Meet me by the flag pole after school. Hence this bloodstream of anonymous drifters and wishers. Strivers. Near Missers. On paper, they sound like every other character who ends up in a motel story. Theres the man paying his debts the hard way and the man avoiding debts. Theres the woman on the run and the woman who treats her body like a garage sale. Theres the immigrant who hears the land making promises and the upstanding citizen at war with his unpretty instincts. And of course there are plans that double as schemes and bad ideas. And killing. Lots of killing. But remember one thing about these ordinary driftings . . . a frog who used to be a prince is singing about them . . . and he knows no one is listening . . . and hes brushing his teeth with whiskey . . . which leads to a certain boldness, for which you will have to forgive him. After all, he used to be a prince. We were going to call this The Frogs Opera, but we promised our backers not to get too fancy. Motel Detritus felt a little cruel. We settled on Motel Americana after we lost a better title in a card game. Secretly we loved it.
Severe Clear is based on the memoir by First Lieutenant Mike Scotti as well as video footage shot by him and other members of 1st Battalion, 4th Marines on the outset of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Through their cameras we see the raw sounds of war, capturing the harrowing three hundred mile charge to Baghdad through hostile enemy territory. The footage used to create Severe Clear was never shot for the purpose of making a movie. In this digital age of embedded reporters, the film truly strips the barriers between audience and soldier, personalizing the fear, moral conundrum and adrenaline rush of life on the battlefield. Severe Clear offers an unflinching look at the uncertainty, disorder and chaos of war from the remarkable perspective of one Marine.
