Here at The Majlis Resort, we often watch sea turtles swimming in the mangrove channels of Takwa and off the coral reefs. We were recently lucky to have shown by locals a nest that had hatched a few days earlier, with a few eggs remaining. We decided to see if they had finally hatched and made their way to the ocean. We were surprised to discover that several baby turtles hatched and were ready to leave home! We saw them frantically heading towards the ocean and not long after entered the water where they started swimming for the first time! As they popped their heads up to take their first breathe and started swimming in the open Indian ocean, we realised this was an incredible experience none of us would ever forget!

The Majlis Lamu Island hotel offers elegant and luxurious accommodation Lamu Island, in understated design complementing the natural beauty of Lamu and its tropical location. The beach hotel facing Lamu Islands comprises 25 superbly-appointed Superior and Deluxe rooms, Junior and Royal suites divided into 3 villas. Each villa opens onto the white sand beach and boasts a private veranda with panoramic sea views. The rooms at the Majlis, the best among Lamu Kenya hotels, are spacious with traditionally high, beamed ceilings, large windows and terraces with spectacular views of the beach, garden, swimming pools and Indian Ocean. Each villa was constructed making use of the archipelago’s natural resources, combining white coral blocks with hand-carved timber.
The Majlis has on offer two wooden canoes and also a single and a double fiberglass kayak which can be used on the seafront of the hotel or in the mangrove creek. The mangrove is a fascinating place to explore and encounter many species of colorful birds and fish. If you wish to engage into an adventurous paddling tour, we recommend a tour at high tide from the seafront of the hotel to the pontoon in the mangroves or vice versa. Estimated time for this adventurous trip is 30-45 minutes.

Since 2003, Save Africa's Children has provided free medical camps treating over one thousand children each year. On August 16, 2008, SAC officially opened the Dagoretti Community Health Center to provide care for children from nearby slum areas, orphanages and other low income areas that lack access to affordable health care. Over 1,200 children were treated on that day. The Health Center is now open year round and needs your help to continue serving the most vulnerable children in Nairobi, Kenya. It only cost $3 for one child to receive basic health services.

Our kids from Class 5 at Bumala school recently entered a dance contest and won first place in the District competitions against 80 schools. They then went on to perform at the Provincial level in Kenya and, although they did not win, they received a certificate for "Good Performance". They had to borrow costumes from another local school, and received bus fare from One Child's Village. We are very proud of their performance abilities as they are completely self-taught and self-choreographed. Here is a sample of their dance routine from June 2010.

Wanijua vyema Bwana (you know me very well Lord) niko mbele zako (I am before you) wazijua fikira zangu, wazijua njia zangu niko mbele zako (you know my thoughts, you know all my ways, I am before you). It is all about telling Him that you know me very well, I cannot hide anything from you. It's a very soaking song and mostly sang before the service for the Lord to have His way or rather to bring His presence. He's the potter and He can decide to create anything out of us only if we can allow Him. Translation by Tisia Kiplangat.
