This intensely racist World War II propaganda film aims at showing the public how different and inhuman the Japanese are from Americans. Setting Japanese people up as the hated “other” was easy for Joseph C. Grew, former ambassador to Japan, who narrates the film. “I can testify that they are as different from ourselves as any people on this planet. The real difference is in their minds. You cannot measure Japanese sense of logic by any Western yardstick. Their weapons are modern; their thinking 2000 years out of date." He describes them as a people who are brought up from infancy in a warlike culture that trains them to believe that it is their God-given right to rule the world, and they will fanatically fight to the death in order to achieve it. As he gives this running racist commentary, inflammatory and often misleading scenes of Japanese life roll by. Children are shown doing calisthenics, soldiers are shown marching, Emperor Hirohito sits his horse, people perform Shinto worship, ...

The film covers all aspects of Japanese culture, including sports, the hierarchy of social strata called Pyramid of Ladders, the native religion of Shinto, and the Samurai and Bushido codes. Those techniques developed into a weaving style which was nurtured throughout Kyoto's long history. In the fifteenth century it came to be known as Nishijin Brocade, a name representative of traditional Japanese weaving with an air of splendor.
Kinran, or gold brocade, is a technique that was brought over from China in the sixteenth century. In Nishijin Brocade, gold leaf and gold thread are incorporated to create a unique, sparkling world. This Introductory video was created to help introduce Japanese POP Culture and to focus mainly on the music artists and was presented on June 29th in Long Beach, CA. The panel itself went into more detail on each individual artist.

On June 15th-17th Anime Mid-Atlantic was held in Richmond, Virginia. Chad and Brett were there for the convention centered around anime and Japanese pop culture, staffing the video game room. Brett, dressed as Captain S, got a chance to walk around and interview con-goers in costume while Chad documented it all on film.
The highly anticipated website devoted to teaching Japanese and the Japanese culture is nearing it's launch.
