Every year, the first Sunday of September, the Historical Regatta comes back in Venice, the most traditional among the venetian events, which took place for the first time the 10th of January 1315 . The sumptuous event, organized in the Serenissima times to celebrate the military victories or to honour the foreign dignitaries, today is made up of two different parts: the historical parade and the rowing boat races. The Historical Regatta starts out with the colourful procession on the Grand Canal, formed by the Bissone, the Bucintoro and the boats of the venetian rowing clubs; the event commemorates the Queen of Cyprus, Caterina Cornaro, coming to Venice, which marked the beginning of the Venice rule over the Mediterranean islands. Venice and its lagoons is a Unesco World Heritage site.
There are more than 1,000 temples in Angkor which have been reclaimed from the jungle and some are magnificent architectural gems to rival the best around the world. Recent Satellite photos have revealed that Angkor spread over 400 square miles making it the largest preindustrial center in the world. Here are some of the best. The immense Khmer empire from the 9th to the 15th C century stretched over present day Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam all the way to India. At Angkor it created a sophisticated network of hydraulic canals and rice paddies that supported over a million people and left architectural monuments that are as overwhelming as ancient Egypt. The ruins of Angkor have been declared a Unesco World Heritage site. In 1431 enemy armies invaded and sacked Angkor. The population left , the region was abandoned and most of this incredible culture was swallowed up by the jungle.
Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity has become a pawn in the ongoing fight between Israelis and Palestinians. it happened when a UN organization declared the church an endangered World Heritage site in "Palestine". That decision upset Jews and Christians, who say the move isn't about protecting the landmark, it's about de-legitimizing Israel... The Christian Broadcasting Network CBN http://www.cbn.com

In what may be the worldâs only coast-to-coast conga line, revelers in Cuban attire congaed from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico to celebrate Key Westâs colorful Cuban heritage.
Led by the Comparsa Key West dance troupe, the conga line proceeded down the mile-long Duval Street from the ocean to the gulf Friday evening.
Located just 90 miles from Cuba, Key West welcomed thousands of Cuban immigrants in the 1800s and was the site of a flourishing cigar industry. At the industryâs peak, the island boasted nearly 150 cigar factories whose workers produced 100 million hand-rolled cigars annually. The conga line and other weekend events recognize the vibrant culture and customs those immigrants brought with them.
Other Key West Cuban American Heritage Festival events include a Saturday night cigar dinner recognizing Key Westâs cigar-making legacy.

Villages like Gammelstad were once found throughout northern Scandinavia. The 424 wooden houses that radiate from the early 15th-century stone church, were used only on Sundays and at religious festivals to house worshippers from the surrounding countryside who lived too far away from home to return on the same day. Gammelstad is fewer than 20 minutes by car or bus from where the cruise ships dock in Luleå.

Quebec City offers beauty, fine dining and delightful diversions. And that's just in the train station.
My three-hour train journey from Montreal to Quebec ended in what has been called 'the most beautiful train station in North America.'
Reminiscent of similar grand terminals in Europe, Quebec City's train station attracts those who come here not only to travel by rail but also to dine at the best steak house in town, according to our cab driver. The train station also houses a few shops and even a dentist office, should you want to dash in for a quick cleaning before the conductor calls 'All Aboard.'
Quebec has been called also been called ‘the most European city in North America’ and the "most romantic city in Canada." Add to those: one of my all-time favorite cities.
