John Pilger dissects the truth and lies in the 'war on terror'. Award-winning journalist John Pilger investigates the discrepancies between American and British claims for the 'war on terror' and the facts on the ground as he finds them in Afghanistan and Washington, DC. In 2001, as the bombs began to drop, George W. Bush promised Afghanistan "the generosity of America and its allies". Now, the familiar old warlords are regaining power, religious fundamentalism is renewing its grip and military skirmishes continue routinely. In "liberated" Afghanistan, America has its military base and pipeline access, while the people have the warlords who are, says one woman, "in many ways worse than the Taliban". In Washington, Pilger conducts a series of remarkable interviews with William Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard, and leading Administration officials such as Douglas Feith, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, and John Bolton, Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security. These people, and the other architects of the Project for the New American Century, were dismissed as 'the crazies' by the first Bush Administration in the early 90s when they first presented their ideas for pre-emptive strikes and world domination. Pilger also interviews presidential candidate General Wesley Clark, and former intelligence officers, all the while raising searching questions about the real motives for the 'war on terror'. While President Bush refers to the US attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq as two 'great victories', Pilger asks the question - victories over whom, and for what purpose? Pilger describes Afghanistan as a country "more devastated than anything I have seen since Pol Pot's Cambodia". He finds that Al-Qaida has not been defeated and that the Taliban is re-emerging. And of the "victory" in Iraq, he asks: "Is this Bush's Vietnam?"

THE SERIES STARTS JAN 19 ON VBS.TV - http://www.vbs.tv/ In The Vice Guide To Liberia, VBS travels to the capital city Monrovia to meet three men who participated in the 14 years of civil war that ravaged the West African country. Former warlords General Rambo, General Bin Laden and General Butt Naked give us guided tours of some of the most dangerous, impoverished areas including jails, brothels, and heroin dens. Despite the UNs intervention in the country, the majority of Liberias young people live in desperate poverty. Surrounded by filth, drug addiction, and teenage prostitution, the ex child soldiers who were forced into war struggle to fend for themselves by any means necessary. As the former President Charles Taylor fights accusations of mass war crimes in The Hague, the people strive for positive change against all odds. Americas one and only foray into African colonialism is keeping a very uneasy peace indeed.
His Excellency Joaquim Chissano, former President of Mozambique, speaks on African agriculture and security as part of the World Food Prize's 2009 Borlaug Dialogue.
The boys from Freshwater Picnic invade Bill Clinton's press conference and get more than the bargained for after asking the former President about the new Coors Light bottle design.
In an explosive and fascinating interview, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Marvin USASF (Ret.), talks about his time in Vietnam as a trained assassin, to the inside job of JFKs assassination, which involved "forces" hiring four mafia hitmen (Marvin even names one); to President Johnson ordering the CIA to kill Dan and his team, while still serving in Vietnam.
Lt. Colonel Marvin is equally critical of 9/11, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Al Gore cancels Copenhagen Climate Conference trip, probably because of climategate
Monday, December 7, 2009 - 23:46
Al Gore wont be lecturing at the Copenhagen Climate summit or conference this month. The former US vice president and climate change fear monger canceled his appointment at Copenhagen because of "unforeseen changes in his schedule".
Al Gore was supposed to speak to more than 2800 people on December 16th.
Now whether or not this has anything to do with climategate we can only speculate but it does seem pretty convenient that Al Gore cancels at the last minute. With the Climategate looming over Al Gore and the thousands of protesters said to gather at Copenhagen it is safe to make it another date. Is he maybe in hiding? Taking the cash and making a dash?

Former General Motors Co. (NYSE:GM) chief executive Fritz Henderson should have suspected his job was in jeopardy the moment Ed Whitacre Jr. became chairman this summer. So says Randy Gulian, executive vice president of recruitment process outsourcing and executive search for Allegis Group. Gulian specializes in senior executive placements in industries including auto and telecom, and has in the past worked with Whitacre. A former CEO of AT&T Inc. and GM's acting CEO, Whitacre is known for cutting through bureaucracy and an aggressive management style. Qualities underscored by Henderson's abrupt departure and Whitacre's Friday management shakeup (The Deal Pipeline subscription required). According to Gulian, whoever is ultimately hired as CEO must be ready for Whitacre's hands-on style. - Suzanne Stevens

IBM Corp. has the in-house deal expertise to handle acquisitions without an investment banker, and over hundreds of deals, it has chosen to go without an outside financial adviser. That could be changing, according to Elias Mendoza, vice president of corporate development and a former Morgan Stanley banker. Mendoza says as IBM navigates in a fast-evolving competitive landscape and expands its presence in global markets, i-bankers can offer insight and connections that complement the capabilities of IBM's in-house deal team. - Suzanne Stevens
Avaya Inc.'s Mohamad Ali had little time to settle in after becoming senior vice president for corporate development in July. Four days after the former IBM Corp. The enterprise communications provider was the victor in a heated auction with a bid nearly double its original price. Even as a complex integration is underway, Ali continues to scan the landscape Avaya's next target. - Suzanne Stevens
These stories will thrill and bewitch you, and unveil the hauntedness in us all. Read them and be scared... With his first book, "Ghost Whispers: Tales from Haunted Midway," local author William Gorman journeys deep into what modern master and Illinois native son Ray Bradbury called the 'October country'; that dark, unseen region where the natural and the supernatural worlds touch and sometimes bleed into each other. Only this time, it's right here in our own back yard: Rockford, Illinois, and her nearby environs. Within these pages you'll meet the ghost of a murdered girl who still wanders her former Haight Village neighborhood on rare, dread occasions; a southern-born taxidermist who lived as strangely as he died, and whose moody soul now will not rest until he finds his lost burial casket; the spirit of an old woman from Belvidere named Nellie, who donned her faded wedding dress one night and walked into the river like vapor; the vengeful phantom of an infamous Freeport assassin, who once killed a U.S. president and was hanged for his crimes; and lingering ghosts of a Rockford gone by, as three young boys take a coming-of-age midnight stroll through their fair city as it was in 1905, a burgeoning place filled with fleeting shadows and with a present already sadly becoming past. Plus many, many more. At times unsettling, at other times lyrical and life affirming, and at times just plain frightening, there's something here for everyone in thismacabre collection of spooky tales. True or not, folklore or fact, strangers who visit this upper Midwest region-after reading these chilling accounts-will arrive from now on with a new appreciation of its spirited history and its somewhat haunted landscape. And local residents will never pass by and look at their own Gothic architecture or tree-shrouded graveyards in quite the same way again. *trailer produced by Book Candy Studios ;-)

Candidate Barrack Obama talked plenty during last year's presidential campaign about the need for more aggressive antitrust merger reviews. Have the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice delivered? We put the question to Jeffrey Schmidt, a partner in the New York office of Linklaters and a former director of the Federal Trade Commission's bureau of competition under President George W. Bush. Schmidt, who will be discussing the antitrust environment at The Deal Economy 2010 conference Nov. 18 and 19, says while there haven't been many high-profile challenges, you can be sure the agencies are scrutinizing proposed acquisitions more closely than they have in years.See the video below or download it at iTunes. - Suzanne Stevens
The European Union is getting ready for a decision on who will become known as the first president of Europe. At a summit in Brussels, the EU's 27 member states are talking informally about who will take on this top role. Dutch Prime Minister Jan-Peter Balkenende, Luxembourg PM Jean-Claude Juncker and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair are among a handful of prominent names being mentioned in Brussels. The European President must be a former prime minister and will be selected by hand by his (or her) peers from the EU member states.
The Swedish presidency of the EU said it will act "swiftly" once the final obstacle to the EU's new structure will be lifted, when Czech President Vaclav Havel signs the Lisbon Treaty.

n his documentary feature, UNCOVERED: The War on Iraq, filmmaker Robert Greenwald chronicles the Bush Administration's determined quest to invade Iraq following the events of September 11, 2001. The film deconstructs the administration's case for war through interviews with U.S intelligence and defense officials, foreign service experts, and U.N. weapons inspectors -- including a former CIA director, a former ambassador to Saudi Arabia and even President Bush's Secretary of the Army. Their analyses and conclusions are sobering, and often disturbing, regardless of one's political affiliations.
