Especially if they are on stage. The chance that the female protagonist before curtain fall will be stabbed, commit suicide, be poisoned by violets, caught in an avalanche she sets off because she sings too powerfully, or that she dies of one seemingly poetic disease or other – that chance is imminently great. But why does she die? The lives that women lead onstage would never have been accepted off stage in their time. Therefore the opera woman is sacrificed on the altar of entertainment, she is objectified and becomes ”the other” that we as an audience can pity, but not feel threatened by. “Der schöne Tod” gives the audience an opportunity to meet characters like Carmen and Isolde in a series of death scenes from the romantic opera’s absolute climax.
The golden age of opera conincides with the birth of film. This new form of entertainment, which would soon overtake as the pop-medium of the era, adopted melodrama in plots and music, popularity and star cult from the opera stage. “Der schöne Tod” gains inspiration from the silent opera film – a well hidden chapter in film history – where entire operas were filmed and screened accompanied by live soloists and orchestra.

A man breaks out of jail, after being arrested for a murder he didn't commit. And trying to clear his name he finds himself taking a young lady hostage, and racing the cops trying to make it to Mexico.
In the future, the spaceship Marco Polo is returning from a mission from the planet Rossum inhabited by robots(who have taken control over the planet when mankind failed to take responsibility).... The robots have no intention of being discovered and place a stowaway in the form of a biomat(artificial human being) in the ship. While the crew is having an artificial rest during their long voyage home, the biomat kills one of its crewmembers and take its place... After seeing the footage and discovering broken cameras, they discover the ingredients of a human being has been going through a meat grinder and out of the ship... As there are 5 people only in the spacecraft, the computer states that the stowaway must have killed him/herself - only there is no way to commit suicide since the meat grinder has to be maneuvered by a "human" hand.... It dawns of them that one has been replaced by the biomat - but which one? And their home - the station Nexus - refuses to receive them since they all know by now that the planet of Rossum will stop at nothing to prevent discovery... They implant radiotransmitters on each other under the supervision of computers in order to reveal the identity of the biomat when it may fail to "act" human... Around 50 thousand trade union members marched across Brussels on Friday to protest against austerity measures. In response to the current financial crisis, the newly formed Belgian government agreed last week to cut public spending by 11 billion euros and to liberalise labour regulations. Here, we talk about some folks you and I have known, and (very importantly) how to keep from joining them. I'm talking about the spiritually dead. They may physically continue to exist and have their funerals in their 80's or 90's, but they actually died much younger, perhaps in their teens and twenties. Some are obvious, because they are so busy being who they think that they are supposed to be that they forget who they might actually be.
Others die more quietly, just sort of giving up on their spiritual life.
In either case, they may have been the victims of spiritual suicide. Some commit spiritual suicide voluntarily, such as the people who are so intent on being who others want them to be that they forget to learn who they really are. And then there are the victims of subtlety, whose spiritual suicide is more of a slow and gentle process to the point that it's hard to tell when they actually died. Worse, so many of them do not know that they are dying - or dead.
And of course, there is something positive that might be gleaned from this also. If you know how some people die, it might show you some ways to be more alive.

When I first met the volunteers, the fact that I had no idea they sacrificed so much of there time to save lives, for no pay, and not even a thank you, was shocking. My ignorance about the volunteer fire and rescue station, just down the street from my house, made me wonder how many others in my community, and around the world, do not know about the amazing people. It was not until I began to document them, and interact with them, did I come to understand one of Americas richest and most dangerous traditions. I was filming an auto accident one day and saw something that changed my life. I saw a group of volunteers remove a woman who was bleeding to death from a car she was trapped in, and saved her life. That was the moment I wanted to put the camera down and do something to help. That was the moment I knew I was ready to make the same sacrifices, to commit hundreds of hours to training, and to stand ready when my community needs me.
