Warming up on guitar is another topic that many people overlook and one of the number 1 reason why people give up playing guitar. What you may not realise is that if you don't warm up you will approach the guitar after a long day, pick it up and try those chords you played perfectly last night, suddenly you feel like your back at square one, the chords are inaccurate, sloppy and nowhere near as good as yesterday. You feel like you have to work on it all over again, screw this you say! and put the guitar down. It's not because you have gone back in your development it's just your fingers are not warmed up and ready to tackle those chords. a 5 min warm up and you ready to rock. in this guitar lesson I give you a very popular warm up that helps your alternate picking too NICE!

In this lesson we will be looking at some music theory and how it relates to the guitar neck. Its really important to be able to know how to work out the notes on your fret board. In later lessons it will allow you to work out what chords to play and where on the fret board, it will allow you to work out the notes of a scale you might be playing. It will also allow you to communicate to other musicians. Pretty important! We will look at the musical alphabet which runs from A-G. We look at the differences between Sharps and Flats (# or b) and we also look at how all this looks on the fret board. I'll try and build it all up stage by stage, Usually when someone see's all the notes on the fret board they freak out, it's perfectly normal if you don't know what # or b means but hopefully after this lesson you will be able to work out any note ...

Strumming Patterns! The mainstay of rhythm guitar playing, there are a couple of rules to strumming patterns and in this lesson i'll let you know what they are. I will also show you 4 different strumming patterns that you can then use on all of your chords you have learnt so far. You can also use these strumming patterns on your own songs or the songs of others to mix things up a bit. If you would like more lessons like this make a suggestion on the forum!

Powerchords are extreamly powerful notes to know. Used a lot in punk, rock, pop and almost any style of music at some stage or another. You will need to be able to not only change from one power chord to the next but know the name of the powerchord you are playing. For example, the C powerchord. In this lesson and the next you will discover what the power chord is, how to name it and how to play it across the strings. We will be using this knowledge later on.

Changing chords is difficult if you have not tried it before but with some good advice and some good technique you will get it! Here is where the real test comes in we have covered the D Major E Major and A Major guitar chords it's now time to practice changing between one. We don't need to worry at this stage about speed or changing in time to music we just need to master the skill. We will look at the pivot point, a handy way of rooting your hand to the fret board and we will also look at some exercises for changing chords that you can master! This is a great little secret and guitar chord changing device that cuts your learning time down by 10x. We also look at the 60 second challenge, a great way to develop your skills!

The Chasing Cars Guitar lesson is a great one for developing a few techniques. You will experience the usual chord playing which uses the chords you have covered so far. But also you will take a look at a technique called alternate picking, this involves picking notes with a down stroke followed by an up-stroke! Depending on your level for most this may be a little too much at once, don't worry about this and just try to play along to the whole song using simple chord strumming. If however you feel your ready have a go at the alternate picking section and also the palm muting section. Palm muting is a great technique to bring a percussive sound into your guitar playing!

The final open position guitar chords to complete the basic level 2 course. We look at the chords C Major and G Major. Interestingly the G major chord has a couple of variations, when we play the same chord but re-order the notes we play it's called a Voicing. So I will be showing you 3 different voicing's of a G Major chord. Why different voicing's? personal preference really, and sometimes certain styles favour one voicing over another. Give it a play and see how you feel. Both these chords require a bit of getting used to and that's why we left them until last. Remember to work through the chords as before and take your time. The C major chord in particular is a big frustration for most with the 3rd finger always muting some of the strings below it. adjust as I have shown you in previous lessons and you will get it!

The A Major guitar chord is another important chord to get under your belt! Make sure you get used to how we built up our guitar chords by picking out each individual note and then giving it a strum. Picking out each note is really important as you need to figure out which strings are not sounding. This is a 5 string guitar chord so make sure you don't hit the lowest E string! We will start looking at introducing how we change from one chord to the next but for now, really focus on getting each chord clean on its own, we will build it into some songs soon. Have patience!

This guitar lesson looks at your first guitar chord. We will be learning a D major, an easy guitar chord to visualise and the first chord I like to teach beginner guitar players. It uses 3 fingers and throws up a few problems that are common to almost all the other chords. Usually the 3rd finger will mute (stop from vibrating) the string underneath it. This is going to develop into a little bit of a frustration as it does for many people, but I will show you a way to develop and adjust to give you the best chance of a clean sounding chord. That is the aim!

I get questions all the time on what the difference is between major and minor, and for that matter all the other strange chord types there is out there. So while we have now learned some major and minor chords its worth looking at getting the concept of chord qualities in your head. A chord quality what we use to try and separate out the different sounds chords create. There are many types of chords, Major, Minor, Major 7th, Minor 7th, Dominant 7th, Suspended etc The names may sound confusing but just think of them as different flavours of a chord. Dominant sounds different to Major. In this guitar lesson i will give you a method of picturing these chords types so that you can understand why they exist and hopefully stop the usual reaction when seeing a chord like C# major 7th #5! "RUNNN!" hopefully this lesson will clear a few things up

D minor chord up next, this is another one that you should try and visualise like the D major chord. The fingering is quite different but the shape is very similar, only 1 note has shifted by 1 fret. I hope your memorising these chords as much as possible as this will help when we introduce changing. As usual we will look at the common problems that might crop up in your playing and beat them down before they develop! Try to incorporate these minor guitar chords into your practice time, try changing between them and see how it goes. for help head to the forum!

Now it's time to try out your first song, armed with your guitar chords, a sense of groove and a gritty determination to get this instrument under your fingers. This guitar song lesson is originally by Coldplay and we will be looking at just the main verses. In this song it will use all 3 chords and you will have to be quick on the changes for it to work. Don't worry though you can always come back to songs when you get better and you will wonder what all the fuss was about. Aim to get a rough idea of this song which you can perfect later when we finish the level 1 course

Welcome to the level 2 course where we really start building on that solid foundation we worked on in the level 1 and guitar 101 course. This guitar lesson will be looking at guitar chords, in particular a new type of chord we call Minor, in this case the A minor Chord. Up untill now all your chords have been Major. The minor chord has a very different quality about it and is used quite alot. The 3 chords you have so far will unlock a fair few songs to play but you really need to expand your guitar chord dictionary to learn more types of songs!

The most basic thing we can do on the guitar is fret (play) a single note. You would be suprised how easy it can be to develop a bad habit here and how many people dont learn how to properly fret the notes. It will make thigns a lot easier when you are playing guitar chords, which involve fretting many notes at the same time! Good fretting technique will allow you to pick things up quickly and make sure your not pushing too hard. After this guitar lesson you should be able to breeze through the other sections.

If you decide to tune your guitar to the open strings you need to know what those strings are. EADGBE is the pattern you will need to learn and I'll show you an easy way of remembering this pattern. Knowing the open strings is not just useful for tuning your guitar. It also helps with naming chords, finding what notes you are playing and many more things that you will discover in the beginner guitar course levels 1-4, so make sure you get this learnt. I also show you the basics for counting frets on the guitar, what is the 1st fret G string for example? after this lesson you should know

In this guitar lesson we look at reading guitar chord diagrams. A lot of information on guitar can be seen as a visual cue, thats what a chord diagram is. Its a visual picture of your fretboard thats for you to look at and copy with your fingers. Its a great way to learn chords rather than trying to read music notation which can look a bit wierd if your not used to it. Tab & guitar chord diagrams are the 2 main ways we can tell each other what to play outside of the normal "Traditional" music notation. After this lesson you should understand the first one, Chord Diagrams! we will look at Tab in the final section

This is the most important lesson I have to share with beginner guitar players. There are three things you need to know about this video: (1) This is an easy and intuitive introduction to fretboard logic. (2) If you follow this video to the very end (Even after the recap), you'll understand the basic chord voicing's logic better than 90% of guitar players. (3) My aim in this video was to teach the method and the logic behind the basic guitar chords, so please don't mind the sound of the guitar or my offhand picking. This is not about me showing off, this is about you learning guitar. :)

Enjoy one of our melodic trance remixes, as we take Edward Maya's wonderful 'This is my life' midrange and mix it up heavily with the vocal 'Where you Wanna Go' from Mischa Daniel and its dance-feel bassline. Diverging from the normal ordering, Edward Maya's twangy chords feature heavily, adding a modern feel to generate a classic club sound. Designed to be strong throughout, this is a mainline dance floor track with constant builds and a particularly sub-friendly bassline. Your bass system had better be in order to handle the loads of this remix!
The actual mixing takes us from "Where you Wanna go" featuring vocals and midrange from "this is my life", to actually switching to "this is my life" and further featuring vocal loops from where you wanna go , along with some nice insertion of the bass-cut peaks from the 'other' song as I alternate between the two to create the mash up.
