Aby piąć się w górę musiał przejąć zasady machiny partyjno-policyjnej. A jednocześnie jako "człowiek organizacji" nie poczuwał się do indywidualnej odpowiedzialności za swoje czyny. W zapisie Moczarskiego uderza zestawienie mentalności totalitarnej i demokratycznej, wysokie napięcie emocjonalne jakie wytwarza się między narratorem a jego rozmówcą.
