For years we’ve been reading about a patch of garbage the size of Texas floating in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, ingeniously dubbed the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Basically, any trash that gets dumped in the water rides the currents to this one spot and joins an ever-increasing flotilla of crap. For all the breathless accounts of the mess and its impact on the area’s sealife, however, no one seemed to have a picture of the buildup.
In order to sate our own curiosity, VBS joined the crew of a research vessel studying the trash and sailed out into one of the most remote spots of open water in the world, the North Pacific Gyre, in search of this mythical garbage island. What we discovered once we got there was an ecological disaster beyond any of our expectations and possibly the single worst thing human beings have done to the planet and ourselves. Hope you’re into cancer and sex-reversal!

Canada's annual seal hunt has just begun, and it has already been marred by tragedy. At least three sealers have died after their vessel capsized, and seven sailors have been rescued in a separate incident. (March 29)

The title says it all: Murder on the High Seas is a dark, stormy, deception-drenched thriller. A story of secret lovers, money and greed is only the setup for this tantalizing mystery. Natalie Moorhead is a society lady with a dark side, who must flee from her ex-lover just getting out of the clink and who is also the son of the man she’s blackmailing. Beset by dangers, she decides to take a boat voyage for safety. Anything but safe, the situation aboard the sea vessel quickly turns murderous and everyone is a suspect. Well shot and well produced, Murder on the High Seas is sure to turn every viewer into Sherlock Holmes, as the killer (and method of killing) is ferreted out.
1903: Wishing to draw the attention of world public opinion to the situation in Macedonia under Ottoman rule, a group of young ethnic Macedonian intellectuals, sons of wealthy merchants from Veles, who live and study in Salonica, and who are strongly influenced by Russian nihilist literature and the Geneva anarchists, decide in April 1903 to make a series of attacks on various business concerns in which foreign capital has been invested. The targets of the attacks are the French vessel "Guadalquivir", the Ottoman Bank, the Electricity plant and the G. P. O. in Salonica. The achievement of their aims means death for the activists themselves. But they give up their lives willingly for a holy cause - the freedom of Macedonia.
The original Enterprise makes an unexpected discovery while on routine patrol: a huge and ancient vessel making her slow, lonely way through the stars.

This was created as a study piece at university; the brief was to design "something legendary"... being a sci-fi geek, a generation ship seemed to fit the bill. The vessel was named "Galactica" in homage to two other beautiful ships who bear that illustrious name.
The Starship Enterprise is (C) Paramount. "Generation Ship Galactica", the animation, design & model of the Generation Ship Galactica is (C) S R Ellis. Enterprise model by buckky@buckky.com. Music (C) Kevin Braheny. Modelled, animated & rendered using 3DS Max 8.
Sail Away sees Round Trip's maiden voyage into pop videodom aboard its trusty vessel, HMS Blue Screen. The whole thing took just 24 hours to complete, from first frame filmed to final rendering.
Endearingly organic, the band even ushered an innocent tea-boy into the filming. Everyone turned up for the filming in vanilla-coloured elephant collared jackets, as arranged. We work fast, and two of our jackets melted during the filming. Tim melted too, but was revived and refluffed with local spring water.
Caked in sea salt, Round Trip's nostrils flare uproariously at the thought of water. We love the liquid.
Cutting and editing by our image weaving svengali, Tim (still) E. Never has Ron sailed closer to an Oscar nomination, never has Tim 'guitared' with such windmill-arcing authenticity, never has Andreas tub-thumped so vanilla-ly, not once has Luke, otherwise known as The Captain, ever been without an instrument in hand, and never, well maybe once one night, has Rob oozed such a clammy sense of rock-goddom
The Love Nest is a fantastic seafaring comedic adventure from comedy virtuoso Buster Keaton. Named “the Seventh Greatest Director of All Time” by Entertainment Weekly, Buster Keaton’s impact on cinema is so far reaching that it’s hard to grasp. Here in The Love Nest his talents are once again on full display, as he makes use of clever sight gags, puns, and physical comedy delivered in his classic deadpan style. Keaton travels the world in virtually every sailing vessel imaginable and irritating everyone he meets along the way! The Love Nest was the last of Keaton’s short film career before embarking on a long and successful run of feature length productions.

"A series of strange incidents happen in Ayanagi City: the crew of a submarine suddenly disappears while they are in the vessel; a spiritless symptom disturbs the world again after ten years; the case of the inside out corpse where a student took on a cruel appearance. While Ryō tracks down the organization behind the string of incidents, Shin, having become involved in the incidents, awakens the "Persona". If Anything has changed, you've failed to notice, because, after all, this is the vessel that you reside in and these are the battle scars to prove that you've lived. That you've loved, that you've lied, that you've bent hearts and have had yours bruised.
Die Deutsche Wochenschau No. 571. August 13, 1941. In the northern part of the east front.
1. Between the Peipussee (Lake Peipus) and the Ilmensee (Lake Ilmen) German troops advance to the Gulf of Finland. A supply camp. North east of the Peipusee, the Soviets are offering new battle. The artillery bombard the positions. Assault guns move forward. Heavy infantry weapons find the enemy. The Soviets know the importance of this position, they offer determined resistance. The troops attack. Wounded comrades are brought back. The Soviets are thrown back in the north, the Baltic lands are enemy free. Everywhere on the east front masses of prisoners are taken daily.
2. Attack over the Peipussee. Storm boats cross over to the opposite shore. A Soviet naval vessel is set on fire. Flak batteries protect the naval assault against Soviet air attacks. The Soviet aircraft are forced to break off their attack. Another attack. One is shot down.
The Incredible Petrified World is a science fiction underwater exploration adventure that’s full of fifties sci-fi cinema fun. A new undersea vessel has been invented that will take passengers down to the very bottom of the deepest parts of the ocean! A group of four adventurous friends journey downward, only to have their technology fail. Fortunately, there’s a cave nearby that miraculously contains oxygen. Happy to be alive but scared of being trapped, things don’t improve when a shipwrecked man is discovered to have survived in the caverns for over a decade! The Incredible Petrified World makes good use of veteran b-movie stars John Carradine, Phyllis Coates and Robert Clarke and the adventure never stops.
The undisputed king of “bad” cinema, Bela Lugosi (Plan 9 from Outer Space) stars in The Phantom Ship, an amusing horror mystery based on a true story. In the late 19th century, the sailing ship The Marie Celeste was discovered with no crew and no evidence of a crew abandonment. The mystery perplexed nautical experts for years, and the story was fictionalized into this fun oversea horror show. Lugosi is a one armed drunken sailor who witless joins the crew of a purportedly jinxed ship, The Marie Celeste. But while Lugosi is drinking on board the creaking vessel, crew members begin to be mysteriously murdered! Plenty of unintentional laughs and intentional frights ensue as captain and crew scramble to save their lives aboard The Phantom Ship!
Dashing leading man through most of the silent film era, Monte Blue took well to talking pictures and this 1932 production The Stoker is a wonderful part of Blue’s highly reputed body of work. Unflinchingly dramatic at ever turn, Blue plays a poor guy who’s been left by his faithless wife. Deciding to give up on his normal life, Blue drifts around before landing a job as a stoker aboard a large vessel, fueling the great furnaces by shoveling coal all day. His journeying eventually leads him to a plantation where he meets a nice young girl – who needs to be saved. This vivid and moving film will tug at your heartstrings. The Stoker is a keeper.

i merely used my apprentice to carry out these acts and he died like a willing vessel. the real Strumgest89 still lives and the revolution is only beginning. hahaha. dumb fucks. don't you know that the existentialist views even his most beloved comrades as expendable? alas, it turns out that this massacre was briantlly executed in an almost "Saw"-like fashion.

I spent some time in Hervey bay, on a boat, stalking the whales that visit the area. Having spent the winter in the Great Barrier reef, giving birth to their calves, they journey down the coast of Australia returning to the Antarctic for the summer.
The vessel was the Moon Dancer, and a small group of us had paid to volunteer to help with the research undertaken by Trish and Wally Franklin PhD.
The Oceania project is studying the transitory Humpback whale population in Hervey bay, Queensland, Australia.
Anyone can sign up to help out with the research.

TheBoaters.TV EP 53 - First up: It was reported last Monday that a private dive team discovered the wreckage of an American ship that sank 139 years ago off of south-central Alaska. In 1868, the "Torrent," a 641-ton three-masted sailing bark, sank after tidal currents rammed it into a reef.
The vessel wreckage was actually discovered back in July by a team led by Steve Lloyd, a shipwreck historian and veteran of a half-dozen other shipwreck expeditions in Alaska. To learn more, visit: www.LostShipwrecks.com
Next: Knowing when and how to purchase replacement hoses for your boat - with tips from boating writers Gordon & Janet Groene.

Trailer: This silent film documents a coast guard rescue of a freighter in icy waters. Lines are shot from a Coast Guard cutter to the freighter wallowing helplessly at sea. The crew of the stricken vessel is removed by lifeboats.
A limited public preview of the Hawaii Superferry Alakai. Years in the making, the arrival of the Hawaii Superferry finally gives island residents a viable alternative to interisland air travel. The 800-ton, 1,000-foot long double-hulled vessel can carry over 800 passengers and over 250 vehicles. On board, ameneties to rival a hotel. Despite its size, it can travel at 35 knots, and travel between islands in two to three hours. The Alakai is the first of two ships, and will service O'ahu, Kaua'i and Maui. Music is "Pacific Journey" by John Keawe.
"The Fighting Lady," directed by William Wyler, provides a portrait of life on a World War II aircraft carrier, a vessel that is "enormous, wonderful, and strange to us." After profiling the various activities of the soldiers' day and following the ship's voyage through the Panama Canal, the film takes the audience through a litany of actual combat engagements. The Fighting Lady participates in a strike on the Marcus Islands, then defends itself against a surprise nighttime raid by Japanese fighters. Some of the photography comes from cameras set up in the cockpits of American planes, showing first hand what it's like to be diving through enemy anti-aircraft fire. The film culminates in a major confrontation with the Imperial Japanese Battle Fleet. In this massive operation, later dubbed the "Marianas Turkey Shoot," American pilots downed almost four hundred Japanese Zeros, while incurring only twenty-two losses themselves.
