In this video, we're gonna take a look at how to edit your WordPress permalinks. Now, a permalink is simply the structure of your WordPress post and page URL that appears in the browser. To edit your permalinks, simply click on Settings, and you'll see here a link that says Permalinks click on that. And here, you would see that the default permalink for the WordPress blogs you're using looks something like this: http://www.yourdomainname.com/?p=, and the number of the WordPress posts, or page.
Now there's absolutely nothing wrong with leaving the permalink as it is by default, but if you want to optimize your blog for search engines and get more free traffic from such search engines, then you have to make your permalinks more search-engine friendly. And the other three options that are listed here by default are actually more search-engine friendly permalink structures.
So let's select the third one here that will display the month and name. So as you can see here, it would display the year, followed by the month, and then followed by the postname. But generally speaking, the year and the month number are pretty much redundant and it does not help you at all if search engine optimization is what you're concerned about. So you may want to delete this entire section here and leave only the postname permalink quotes. And then I'm going to scroll to the bottom and click on Save Changes.

Charles Geshekter is Emeritus Professor of African history at California State University, Chico. After earning his Ph.D. in History from UCLA, Geshekter has held three Fulbright Awards and his African field research was supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Ford Foundation and Social Science Research Council. His publications examine various aspects of modern Somali history, techniques of documentary film making, and reappraising the AIDS epidemic in Africa. Geshekter helped to establish the Somali Studies International Association, coordinated its first conference in Mogadishu in 1980, and co-edited the Proceedings of the 1st Congress of Somali Studies. During the United Nations intervention in Somalia, Geshekter was news analyst for CBS National Radio Network, KRON-TV/San Francisco, PBS, and numerous radio stations. In 1985, he produced a PBS documentary, "The Parching Winds of Somalia" for WQED-TV. Portions of the film were included in a McNeil-Lehrer NewsHour special program, "Somalia: Anatomy of a Tragedy" that was nominated for a 1993 Emmy Award. Geshekter was Program Coordinator for the 1989 Meeting of the American Association for Advancement of Science/Pacific Division. From 1991-95, he served as Chairman for its History of Science Section and was on its Executive Council. In 1996, he was Chief Policy Advisor on Education Finance for the California State Assembly. He has worked for the Department of Justice as a consultant and researcher on African immigration issues. From 2000 to 2003, Geshekter was a member of the South African Presidential AIDS Advisory Panel.

The first thing you need to do is look for the Thesis menu and click on Thesis Options. And although there are a lot of customization options on this page, but for Search Engine Optimization, were going to edit the document head as well as the home page settings. So Im gonna expand the Title Tag here, okay? And Im going to Show site name in title, Show site tagline in title, and Show tagline before title - so those are the three options available here. However, what Thesis does is it just controls the exact location of your title and tagline. So you can actually have your blogs name appear before the tagline, or you can have your tagline appear before the title. And for individual pages, you can also choose to append the site name to page titles, and then you can choose the character separator, which essentially separates your blog name and your blog tagline, and also on pages, it separates the page title and your blog name.
