LYRICS:
Theres a rumor going around school,
That only athletes and cheerleaders are cool.
They say, if youre in the band, youre a loser to the max.
Whether you play the trumpet, clarinet, or even the sax.
Well, we dont agree. In fact, we submit,
that what theyre saying is a bunch of bull-----.
Band is awesome, Bands the new trend.
Bands your best chance for making friends.
Youre not the star quarterback, so what?
Be glad your brain is bigger than a walnut.
You dont have a tan, and you cant do a split.
But youve got self-respect and a valve for your spit.

Louis Jordan was a jump jazz musician and Godfather of rhythm & blues. This singer/sax man was hugely popular during the 1940's and an inspiration to a number of the legends of 1950's r&b. James Brown has cited watching âsoundiesâ, early music videos that played between films in theaters, as an early influence. Here we present part two of performances culled from the film Reet Petite and Gone. Highlighted by the song & dance number Wham Sam. Go cat go!!

One hundred years after his birth, Ben Webster remains one of the weightiest of all Jazz tenor sax players. One can still hear the signature elements of his influence: That breathy phrasing. That lilting devotion to melody. That unmistakable tone, so reverberant and roomy. So airy and large.
From the late â50s into the â60s, Webster maintained a free agent status, recording for a number
of labels until 1964 when he relocated in Copenhagenâanother American jazzman preferring the relatively racist-free comfort of Denmark. There he lived out the remainder of his days playing when and where he chose.
Culled from albums released by a number of labels during Websterâs last few years as a U.S. resident, Concord Records' "Ben Webster Centennial Celebration" reveals his musical resilience and enduring popularity with the leading jazz producers of the day.

Perot Systems, the company founded by sometime presidential candidate Ross Perot, is in the news this week due to its acquisition by Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL). But last week, it was the entrepreneur himself that being talked about, as The Deal asked Stuart Ellman and Jim Robinson, co-founders of RRE Ventures, to name the entrepreneurs they admire most.
We chatted with Ellman and Robinson at Shake Shack II, a party for 300 held September 15 at an outdoor burger stand favored by the New York tech crowd. The casual gathering hosted by nextNY, a group for up-and-comers in the tech and new-media fields, offered precious opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors to rub elbows -- and make deals. We were there, videotaping our conversations with dozens of the digerati. For more on the event, see Shake Shack II: Hip mixer for founders, investors and Shake Shack II tech shindig in pictures. This video was shot on July 21, 2009. It was the first Concert that I played since the Winter Blues Festival in January. My old drum teacher/friend Michael Saint John is on drums. He was visiting from the West Coast. He grew up in Deer Park where the bass player Nick Giese and myself grew up at. Check out Michael's website which is www.michaelsaintjohn.com He plays many instruments and has made a decent living being a producer and musician on the West Coast. Scoot Jacobs is on sax. He used to play with many local blues legends such as H-Bomb Ferguson, Big Joe Duskin, Pigmeat Jarrett, and The Cincinnati Blues Allstars. He now plays part time with me and can often be seen playing with a great show band called Soulpocket. Nick Giese, the bass player also plays Lead Guitar with Working Class Villain

Amazing contemporary jazz sax player Jackiem Joyner talks about his life, inspirations, passions, and his new CD titled 'Lil' Man Soul.' Jackiem Joyner has made a huge step in his young career with his sophomore release, Lil Man Soul. After being discovered by Richard Elliot and Rick Braun and supported by Peter White on his very first release (babysoul May 2007) he has become accustomed to being in the company of the very top flight performers in contemporary jazz. Recording sessions with Joe Sample, Wayman Tisdale, Gerald Albright and other stars have keened his considerable chops. Add to that a couple years worth of hopping the globe as member of Keiko Matsuis band this Lil Man Soul is steppin out and into the bright lights. The new release reflects a greater sonic dimension in the recording and instrumentation and clearly a maturity in composition as well. The Virginia-born Joyner evokes comparison to many of the genres great talents (among them Grover Washington, Jr. and George Howard) while producing a singular, unique voice of his own.
