Lungometraggio prodotto nel 1962 dalla Toei Doga (Tit. orig.: Arabian night Sindbad no boken): e' la trasposizione animata delle avventure del famoso marinaio Sindbad attraverso i mari del Sud, tratte dal racconto "Le mille e una notte". Ricco di poesia, si nutre di un disegno 'ricamato' e piuttosto lezioso nella confezionatura per via del delineo del segno, leggermente piu' scuro o piu' chiaro del colore sottostante e di un 'taglio' cinematografico ancora classico. Simbad e i personaggi sono realistici; il piccolo Ali' appartiene alla stirpe dei mocciosi petulanti (v.di anche il piu' moderno Shibari, il bambino stregato di Alice, fanciulla infelice, dello stesso autore); il capitano della nave, e' un vecchio dall'aria barbuta e saggia, molto caro all'animazione nipponica; e i due marinai, uno grasso, l'altro magro, dal grafismo lineare e spoglio si ricollegano graficamente ai ninja del Serpente bianco e ritroveremo modelli similari modernizzati in altri film (v.di Tortuga e Octopus di Ventimila leghe sotto i mari, ecc.). The Last Supper is an outrageous, grisly Asian shocker about a handsome cosmetic surgeon named Dr. Yuji Kotonado (Masaya ... Kato). He is also secretly a cannibal, who delights in killing his dates and later grilling their body parts on the stove. He writes online a “Diary Of A Cannibal” on how he came to this, from first frying up some fat from one of the women he liposuctioned, to finding a woman hanging in the park who became his first real entrée. “It is the desire to eat the meat of the one you love” is his mantra. There’s a wild scene when he travels to Hong Kong and goes to a private club where a woman is beheaded and the patrons all feast on her. Directed by Osamu Fukatani, mercifully some of the special effects are not great, but on the whole the movie is unbelievably bizarre. Yummy!

Metropolis (メトロポリス, Metoroporisu) is an anime movie released in Japan in 2001 and based on the Metropolis manga created by the late Osamu Tezuka. The movie had an all star production team including renowned anime director Rintaro, Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo as script writer, and animation by Madhouse Studios with conceptual support from Tezuka Productions. - DK -
