Im Juni/Juli 1967 ging das Ensemble der Staatsoper Hamburg auf Tournee und besuchte das kanadische Montreal im Rahmen der Weltausstellung sowie New York. Neben sechs modernen Werken (u.a. "Jenufa", "Mathis der Maler") erklang auch der "Freischütz", der "in den Vereinigten Staaten so gut wie unbekannt war" (Liebermann). Um einen "Stilbruch" zu den modernen Opern zu vermeiden, wurde Webers Werk konzertant aufgeführt. Der Erfolg dieses Tourneekonzepts war groß: Die Eintrittskarten handelte man zu Schwarzmarktpreisen. Im August 1967 wurde die erste von insgesamt 13 Opern für das Fernsehen produziert. Im Auftrag des NDR übernahm die Polyphon Film- und Fernsehgesellschaft Inszenierungen aus der Staatsoper in ihrer Originalbesetzung. Regisseur Joachim Hess passte die Bühnenfassung den Erfordernissen des Fernsehens an. Der "Freischütz" entstand im Januar/Februar 1968 als dritter Film. Rolf Liebermann sah einen unschlagbaren Vorteil des Opernfilms - trotz der Befürchtung, Musikfreunde vielleicht vom Gang in das eigene Stadttheater abzuhalten: "Es ist eine wichtige und merkwürdige soziologische Erfahrung, wenn man statt zwei- bis dreihunderttausend Zuschauern in mehreren Jahren einige Millionen auf einen Schlag erreicht. [...] Viele Leute werden durch das Fernsehen überhaupt erst mit der Welt der Oper bekannt gemacht." Eine Aufführung der Hamburgischen Staatsoper, Philharmonische Staatsorchester Hamburg. Durch ein Missgeschick schaltet sich die Zeitmaschine ein, während Paul alleine ist. Die Funken sprühen, und Paul steht plötzlich einem blindwütig kämpfenden römischen Zenturio (Mathis Landwehr) gegenüber. Der Zenturio hat eine spannende Geschichte zu erzählen, die Geschichte seines Bruders Arminius. Arminius vereint einige germanische Stämme und wagt den Kampf gegen die erfolgreichste Armee dieser Zeit.
Ron Kischuck—Toledo Jazz Orch/Mardi Gras Ron Kischuck is in his third season as the artistic director of the Toledo Jazz Orchestra. He is also adjunct faculty of Wayne State University teaching both classical and jazz trombone and jazz trumpet, as well as an artist in residence at the Toledo School For The Arts and director of the Toledo Junior Jazz Orchestra and its educational programs. He is a Yamaha clinician and performing artist, the leader of The Masters Of Music Big Band, and The Tartarsauce Traditional Jazz Band. Ron is the owner of Brassworks Entertainment in Detroit and The Masters Of Music Conservatory in Royal Oak and the Detroit area’s most prominent trombonist. He has been a featured soloist with The Detroit Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the orchestra many times as principal or assistant principal trombonist. His Masters Of Music Big Band has backed up Johnny Mathis, Hal Linden, The Temptations, Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight, and Regis Philbin among others. Ron has 13 CD releases and is releasing three new recordings this year. He has recorded with Aretha Franklin, Vickie Winans, Tim Bowman, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Grand Funk Railroad, The Les Brown Band, The Emerald Sinfonietta, Russ Miller, Paul Finazzo, Bobby Murray, Stewart Francke, Karen Newman, Alto Reed, Jimmy Scott, Randy Scott, The Birmingham Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra, and is lead trombone on the Grammy winning soundtrack Standing In The Shadows Of Motown.
