(1947) The social life of magazine art editor Madeleine Damien (Hedy Lamarr), which has given her a questionable reputation, and the pressures of her job are driving her to a breakdown. Hedy Lamarr, Dennis O'Keefe, John Loder, Director: Robert Stevenson.

Madeleine Damien is the fashion editor of a slick Manhattan magazine by day and a lively party girl by night. Unfortunately, the pressures of her job, including kowtowing to a hefty advertiser, and her bad luck with men are driving her to a breakdown. She seeks the help of a psychiatrist, and under his orders, quits her job and moves into a smaller flat under a new identity. She becomes interested in painting and a handsome neighbor.

Hollywood bombshell Hedy Lamarr lights up the screen in Dishonored Lady, a poignant and moving story of love and tragedy. Lamarr, who is often remembered just for her magnificent beauty, was a serious actress and this was a subtle and layered performance. Lamarr is Madeleine Damien, an emotionally conflicted and overworked magazine editor who decides to take a new direction with her life. Embracing her passion for art and making it her new career, she also finds wholesome romance with a good natured doctor. But all gets put in jeopardy when she gets mixed up with an old lover who’s less scrupulous, and involves her in a murder. Dishonored Lady is a top flight dramatic experience, thanks largely to taut dialogue and sharp acting. Also, did I mention Hedy Lamarr is a real looker?

A fourth tribe has come to the land of the three tribes; the light-skinned newcomers are fated to change the tribes' way of life and religion. Satha, a dark-skinned woman from a poor Theseni clan, and Loic, her wealthy young Doreni husband, are too busy forging their new life together to pay much heed. But when Satha is dishonored and Loic must avenge her, they find themselves drawn into a cultural battle.
