Riitta Ikonen

Riitta Ikonen, 27, is studying a two year MA in Communication Art and Design at the Royal College of Arts, graduating in June 2008.
Originally from Finland, Riitta believes the Beck's Canvas project resonates with her own belief of taking art out of the gallery for people to see in a wider context. In her mind individualism is a little space inside your head reserved just for you, like a private restaurant table that serves you anything you think to want.
Riitta takes inspiration from 'the performance of images, through photography and costume design. Certain things, usually small and insignificant, excite me to the point that I have to wear them and then document that process.'

The Dennos Museum Center in cooperation the Beckman Institute of the University of Illinois - Urbana Champagne presents CANVAS where mathematical equations become art in a 3-D virtual world.
A CANVAS (Collaborative Advanced Navigation Virtual Art Studio) is a room-sized immersive 3D environment with origins in CAVE technology from the Electronic Visualization Laboratory at the University of Illinois, Chicago. It is scalable, reconfigurable display technology for modern art museums and is not intended as a work itself but as an environment to facilitate the creation and display of immersive art works. CANVAS is collaborative because it can be connected to an array of geographically dispersed immersive virtual spaces, has advanced navigation to allow viewers in different locations to interact with virtual art and allows for the creation and presentation of virtual art that exists not in two or three-dimensional space like a painting or sculpture but in the multi-dimensional virtual world.

Villa Amanecer, just 10 minutes from prestigious Punta Mita resort; is the one latest architectural works of art built by Juan Pablo Stone. The dramatic villa faces the south-western sunset and features a privileged and majestic view overlooking the Bay of Banderas, across to Puerto Vallarta, ringed by the Sierra Madre jungle.
Designed by architect Ruben Flores, the rugged and diverse coastline is an empty canvas for the country's reknown artisans to execute their best ideas. The tropical coastal life is often imagined by a lavish cascading pool, with a massage and a cocktail. For the builders of these homes, experiencing the art of leisure, a certain joie de viver comes from natural sweeping vistas from a clifftop at the edge of the sea, fresh wind in your face. It is an emotively framed mural view at entry, romantic outdoor living, eating, resting spaces, cascading water features, the finest and grandest wooden palapas and intricate stonework throughout.

I’m Eddie an Emo, and today I will be discussing “How to dress Emo.” The Emo look can vary depending on where you live and the genre of Emo you are going for. For example the Indie Emo look is a bit different from the nerdy emo look. The indie emo look - (best for girls and guys 14-20) # Dyed-black short hair with bangs short and cut straight across the forehead. Spikey in the back. Light blonde hair on girls often works too. # Piercings. The more the better. # Jewelry. The more the better. Beads, etc. # Horn-rim/thick black frames/cat eye glasses. # Tight, fadded shirts with random slogans. It should look like it could have been bought at a thrift store but you didn't (but you really did). It takes a while to master that one. # Messenger bag covered in patches and pins (that you actually bought at shows). # Tight pants, sometimes cuffed once or twice but never more! # Converse or other canvas typeshoes. The nerdy emo look - (best ...

The new Queens of Noize night at Mahiki is all about art. They even called it Art Art Art. Music and dancing has been getting too much of the spotlight for too long. Time for art to shine. There are interactive installations hosted by a different artist each week. You can get dressed up and be the star of your own music video or express yourself on 'the plinth' - the artist's open mic... having proved yourself to the 'performance police' first… Auditions take place in the queue or on the door. Or you can just offer your body up as a canvas. It's all very cutting edge and alternative. Scottee (who else?!) investigates.

The Environmental Protection Agency reports that Americans produce approximately 220 million tons of garbage each year. Environmentalist Bob Lilienfeld believes it's better not to create waste than to figure out what to do with it. He says choosing certain products over others is one way people can help reduce excess waste, like buying foam egg cartons that weigh less than an ounce instead of those pulp paper egg cartons, which weigh close to two ounces. Consumers can also use canvas shopping bags rather than wasting disposable plastic bags.
