What starts as a poignant medical documentary about Deborah Logan's descent into Alzheimer's disease and her daughter's struggles as caregiver degenerates into a maddening portrayal of dementia at its most frightening, as hair-raising events begin to plague the family and crew and an unspeakable malevolence threatens to tear the very fabric of sanity from them all
For 20 years, from age 13 until after she married, Laura cared for her father. . Laura decides this must not continue and that she must live her own life. So she abandons her Alzheimer's disease-afflicted father at a county fair, without any ID--just a slip of paper that says "My name is Larry." Detective Liz Roberts, who also was abandoned by her birth mother, is assigned to the case, and in her investigation into Larry's identity and her attempt to locate Laura, she discovers many long-lost secrets. The story reels you in with little clues as to where it is heading as it builds to an 'insane' climax that you will never see coming. One reviewer said "I was drawn into the story right away. The descriptions were so vivid, I could see the characters and the scenery in my mind as the story unfolded. I was surprised as the author continued to take me through the twists and turns and secrets (of a) gripping story." Other reviewers agreed: "Apart from being a very good tragedy, this book also can be categorized as an excellent psychological thriller. Every character in this story has some emotional issues of their own including the leading investigator. Dark secrets of their lives (await) to make their lives more miserable." " I would not let me go until I finished it. I expected a miserable tale of a sufferer from the disease but was served much more than this. The book indeed offers a lot of information and insight into the life of the victims and their careers and relatives, but the story to me was more a psychological thriller."

http://foods4healing.com/ Coconut and coconut oils as excellent food sources have finally triumphed over decades of (purposeful?) misinformation and "scare tactics". Without getting into the perhaps unfortunate politics of it all, suffice to say that large companies with deep pockets used their influences to quash knowledge of coconut's benefits in favor of promoting their "own" preferred oils. Huge marketing campaigns in the late 1950's into the 1960's funded by the soy bean and corn industries, and supported by the American Heart Association, took aim at changing the typical American Diet. One such change called on Americans to substitute naturally occurring saturated fats for polyunsaturated and laboratory produced trans fats. These are much cheaper to produce. Years of propaganda against all saturated fats ensued. And look at what has happened since. Worldwide heart disease is on the increase and obesity, linked to this "new" American diet is a major problem. (Watch Coconut Video) It is now becoming apparent that not all saturated fats are created equal. In fact, we now know that the fat in coconut oil is unique. Because it is largely made up of medium chain triglycerides (MCTs), coconut oil is different from most all other fats. Coconut oil has been described as "the healthiest oil on earth" and its extensively researched health benefits are numerous. MCTs are now being tauted as an amazing compound to help prevent and even reverse the symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias! During a five-hour surgery last October at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Kathy Sanford became the first Alzheimer’s patient in the United States to have a pacemaker implanted in her brain. She is the first of up to 10 patients who will be enrolled in an FDA-approved study at Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center to determine if using a brain pacemaker can improve cognitive and behavioral functioning in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
The collaboration between Alzheimer's Services of The East Bay and AgeSong will allow interns to work with the adults who are cared for each day at the Berkeley and Hayward communities. Your generous donation will go toward this important program that benefits both the intern and the members of the ASEB community.

Adaptive clothing exists to make dressing and changing easier and safer for both caregivers and those in their care. Our adaptive apparel is designed to look just like "regular" clothing, but has special features such as snaps down the back of a shirt allowing the caregiver ease of dress. The back snaps allow the person being dressed to simply place their arms out in front of them, the caregiver slips the shirt onto their extended arms and then snaps the shirt closed down the back. This is especially helpful for handicapped or elderly individuals who have limited range of motion. We believe that adaptive clothing should improve the lives of both the wearer and the caregiver. Adaptive clothing by definition is special needs clothing that is adapted to help elderly, disabled or handicapped individuals receive better care from their caregivers. This type of clothing was initially designed for use in nursing homes and is widely used in elderly care and assisted living homes, in fact these types of institutions are our primary customers. Just recently more and more families have discovered these products to help their loved ones when the need arises. Clothes for Seniors' adaptive clothing utilizes snaps, zippers, and Velcro® in back opening, side opening, and shoulder opening styles to make assisted dressing easy. For your shopping convenience, we carry a full line of popular adaptive apparel and footwear styles including: wheelchair clothing, incontinent clothing, women's dusters, housedresses, side opening pants, snap back shirts, plus size women's clothing and plus size men's clothing, adult bibs and clothing protectors, a number of easy dressing solutions for dementia and Alzheimer's disease patients, diabetic shoes and diabetic socks, and Velcro® shoes
