Everyone knows that a standard mouse and keyboard work just fine for PC gaming, but what about when you want to feel more immersed in the experience?
Sixense hopes to satisfy that wish with the Hydra Razer controller. Danny Woodall, Lead Game Designer on Sixense's Portal 2 team, explains the controller's motion control capabilities to GameZombie's David Klein. Aside from focusing on an experience built specifically for Portal 2, gamers will be able to map any of their Steam games to the controllers buttons or recognized motions, allowing the users to tweak or create the setup that works best for them.
Pre-orders for Razer Hydra and Portal 2 bundles begin in May, selling for $140 at www.razerzone.com. The bundle also includes the Sixense MotionPack DLC, featuring levels that were created specifically with the Razer Hydra in mind. The peripheral is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and 7.

With the release of Little Big Planet in 2008, Playstation 3 owners discovered that they could not only create their own levels, but share them with the rest of the world via the Playstation Network as well. Now with Little Big Planet 2, this idea expands beyond just levels. With the aid of our old friend Sackboy, players can now create entire games for everyone to see.
In Media Molecule's Little Big Planet 2, aspiring game developers and casual players alike now have even more resources at hand to create their own games, levels, and whatever else they can imagine. Players familiar to the franchise will find that instead of having Sackboy do all the work, as was featured in the first game, they can now control and manipulate materials and objects themselves, allowing for greater detail and precision.
But what if you're not the developing type and just want to play the game itself? Not to worry, the single player experience has got you covered. Sackboy now has little companions called Sackbots that he ...
If you were competing in a game show for a cash prize that was riddled with zombies, how would you kill them?
Thanks to Blue Castle Games, you can research your answer to this in Dead Rising 2. Set five years after the events of the original Dead Rising, the sequalâs world is comfortable enough with zombies to use them for entertainment. Players control Chuck Greene, a former motorcross champion thatâs seeking the prize money to pay for his infected daughterâs medication. Thanks to his experience with tools, Chuck isnât only limited to what he finds strewn around the gameroomâs vast, casino-themed setting; once the corresponding card is found, players can pair two simple items together to make a combo weapon.
Of course, Chuck isnât competing against himself. Survivors and psychopaths are still a huge component of the game, supplying plenty of challenge for those looking for something beyond saving Chuckâs daughter. Thankfully, psychopaths will be the only infuriating opponent this time around; the ...
Travis Steiner, Lead Designer of Socom 4: U.S. Navy SEALs, talks us through a few of the key concepts Zipper Interactive chose to build the game around. In hopes of expanding their audience base as well as immersing them more successfully in the gameplay, Socom 4 includes full support for the Playstation Move.
Despite the franchise being primarily known for its multiplayer component, Zipper Interactive focused heavily on delivering a cinematic, narrative story for the single player campaign. A great story only goes so far if the opposing army acts nothing like a cohesive military, however, leading to additional focus on implementing focus on weaving group tactics into the enemy AI.
The enemy isn't the only one capable of strategy, of course. A new game mode called âCommand Modeâ, an effort to give more tactile control to the player over the rest of the soldiers in their squad. With destructible environments making their debut in the Socom franchise, players will need to call the shots out effectively, ...
During the first Portal, players used their portal gun to solve puzzles and thwart enemies in an attempt to escape from the control of GLaDOS. Now with Portal 2, a brand new storyline and game play elements bring a whole slew of challenges to overcome. Valve Writer Erik Wolpaw talked with us to describe some of these new challenges.
One of the differences Wolpaw describes is the change from using two portals to four, as well as the addition of a cooperative mode. Two players will now be able to run through the game using all four portals to solve the game's multiple puzzles. More game play changes include the "bridges" that players can create within the portals, the use of lasers, and finally, a new feature called "gel" which can paint over enemies and environments. Also, the single player experience is noted to be at least twice as long as in the original Portal.
Valve's Portal 2 is slated for a April 19th, 2011 release on PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Mortal Kombat has always been a fan favorite in the fighting game genre. With a long running history of titles spanning across multiple platforms, WB Games is coming out with a brand new game, titled "Mortal Kombat", in order to give the franchise a new breath of life.
Hans Lo, Senior Producer at WB Games, talks about the new gameplay features and the decision to just go with the title "Mortal Kombat". Rather than putting another number at the end of the title, WB decided to go with just "Mortal Kombat" to accompany their vision of reimagining the franchise.
With new 3D models mixed with the traditional 2D fighting plane, gamers can enjoy the different perspectives while pulling off their favorite fighting combos. Hans also talks about their new "X-ray mode". When a player punches an enemy in the ribs or aims a kick towards their head, the camera will zoom right into the action, showing off all the violent goodness.

From the company that brought you Little Big Planet, SCEA brings the customizable fun to the race track.

What really sets ModNation apart from other kart racers though, is the fact that players can also build their very own racing tracks from scratch. The PS3 will even fill in the created track with complementing scenery and power-ups if the user chooses not to.

The original Dead Space was an ambitious homage to the horror genre, mixing an intelligent story with some truly terrifying moments. After allowing two years for the trauma to be repressed, EA is gearing up for the release of their direct sequel to the franchise.
Matt Bendett, Project Manager for Dead Space 2, describes the steps the studio has taken to ensure the sequel is received well. Following the feedback from their fans, EA revamped the way zero gravity environments play to include full 3D movement. New suits for Isaac are equipped with thrusters to allow for more mobility during tense fights in space. No more rocketing from wall to wall in static lines!
Isaac is also exploring a massive city this time around, allowing for plenty of variation within the game's environment. Dead Space's signature feeling of a claustrophobic setting with no escape will remain throughout the upcoming sequel, however. The idea of expensive fiction will, too; Bendett hopes to expand on the story through additional ...

MMOs have grown to be one of the gaming industry's most popular genres of gaming. Most of them contain game play that can become fairly complex, and the last thing you want to fight against if your controller setup. If you find your standard keyboard and mouse underwhelming, consider Logitech's keyboard and mice that are built around the needs of MMO players.
Chris Pate, Project Manager at Logitech, discusses the key features of the company's Gaming Keyboard G5 10 installment in their line of gaming keyboard and mice. This installment in the peripheral series allows for 18 programmable keys, support for analog headsets, and detection for up to five simultaneously pressed keys at once, for all of your spamming needs! To help you keep track of your keys during the height of your all-night marathon, RGB back lighting has also been built in to illuminate the keyboard in the color of your choice.
Of course, having a competent mouse is as equally important step to victory. With 13 programmable controls, ...
Has the upcoming reboot of Tron inspired you to go back and watch the first film a dozen more times? Why not try a more involving way to enjoy the franchise?
Del Chafe, Lead Gameplay Designer for Tron: Evolution, explains that the game will act as a bridge between the plots of the 1982 classic film and the upcoming reboot. The game's storyline covers critical changes to the Tron universe, showcasing darker subject matter than the original movie.
Tron: Evolution plays as a third person action game, revolving around light disc based combat. Players can switch between attack modes in order to suit their preferred strategy. The light cycle makes a welcome appearance as well! Game grids within the single player mode feature the iconic bikes, serving to diversify the campaign.
If multiplayer is your thing, gladiatorial bike and tank battles should keep you busy. Vehicles and ability load outs for on-foot combat sessions are customizable, allowing players to find their preferred weapon of choice!

Tired of waiting around for Kingdom Hearts 3? Turn to Epic Mickey for your Disney fix instead!
Disney Interactive Studios' Warren Spector describes the game's use of paint and thinner to alter the world around Mickey. As players repair the shambled cartoon world of Wasteland, the choices they make will effect later portions of the game. Solutions to puzzles are as open ended as well, allowing players to take whatever approach they'd prefer in order to progress through the game.
Epic Mickey pays tribute to the history of the iconic character, drawing inspiration from the settings and characters from Mickey's career. Rather than relying on the brand name to carry it through, however, Epic Mickey provides its own distinct character with subtle tweaks and additions to the existing personality.

With established franchises such as Tony Hawk and Skate already on the market, developers need to bring something new to the table if they hope to improve upon the skating game genre. Luckily, Mattieu Begin and Nick Harper of Ubisoft Montreal seem confident that their latest project, Shaun White: Skateboarding, is up to the task.
Begin and Harper describe the teamâs effort to re-create Shaun Whiteâs original vision, inspiring the gameâs new âinfluenceâ mechanic. The surrounding environment changes in response to a successfully landed trick or combo, providing players a new way to incorporate the world around them into their dream trick line. Rails can also be extended or manipulated to link to another section of the environment, letting the playerâs imagination run nearly without limits.
Begin also explains the different approach taken for the Wii version of the game. From balance board support to competitive multiplayer modes, the Wii version aims to take advantage of the specific strengths of the ...
There is an undeniable rush from partaking in the legacy of a fake band made up of no-name musicians and plastic peripherals. You might feel goofy slinging a weightless guitar over your shoulder or tapping on foam-headed drums, but when you get your first gold star or earn another improvement for your band, it's hard to suppress a smile.
Dan Teasdale, Lead Designer for Rock Band 3, has been with the series since the very beginning. During our interview, Teasdale ran us through the biggest features for the upcoming game. The game's selling point, "Pro mode", is an attempt to simulate the true experience of playing drums, guitar, bass, or the game's brand new instrument, piano. To help make the guitar more realistic, a fret by fret controller will launch alongside the game, with a genuine, modified Squire Stratocaster releasing later on if you want to learn the absolute real thing.
