中井山3号墳の横穴石室（移築） 中井山3号墳は、豊中市永楽荘2～4丁目にあった太鼓塚(太古塚、たこ塚)古墳群を構成した古墳の1つです。明治時代、日本考古学の発展に大きく寄与したイギリス人ウィリアム・ゴーランドも、この古墳を調査したことで知られています。また、その時採取したと考えられる陶棺（焼き物でできた棺）は、今でも大英博物館のコレクションとして保管されています。 昭和40(1965)年に中井山1～3号墳のある永楽荘3丁目で宅地開発が行われることになり、その開発工事に伴い本格的な調査が実施されました。調査の後、石室に使われた石材は昭和41(1966)年8月29日に豊中市立桜井谷小学校へ運び込まれ、発掘調査前の姿に復元されるように組みなおされました。『野畑の歴史』には、「北部永楽荘三丁目（西山丘陵帯）に太古塚古墳群三十数基があった。その一部が豊中市立桜井谷小学校西門に保存されている」とある。 ところで、中井山3号墳は直径16メートルの円墳で、この中には長さ6.4ｍ、幅1.2ｍをはかる横穴式石室が設けられていました。発掘調査では、この石室について棺を納める場所にあたる玄室に大小の石がしきつめられていることや、3～4基の陶棺が収められていたことがわかりました。また、石室からは、棺の他に壷や杯などの「須恵器」と呼ばれる焼き物や、金環や銀環、ガラス製の小玉などのアクセサリーが出土しました。これらの出土品から、中井山3号墳は飛鳥時代(7世紀前半)に作られた古墳とされています。 所在地:大阪府豊中市柴原町3丁目11-1(豊中市立桜井谷小学校)
