浅草の活性化を目的に昭和５６年から始まったイベントは、その陽気さが古来の下町文化に通じると、浅草を愛し続けた芸人、故伴淳三郎さんの提案で実現し、現在では５０万人の観衆を魅了する夏の浅草を代表するお祭りになりました。日本全国から集まった約４，５００名が華麗なダンスや色鮮やかなコスチュームを競い合うパレードコンテストを行います。
